Music store chain going out of business, closing 42 stores

WASHINGTON — Sam Ash, which proudly proclaimed itself “The World’s Favorite Music Store,” is shutting down and closing all of its remaining locations after 100 years in business. 

The family-owned company announced on May 2 that all of the Sam Ash Music store locations would begin store closing sales that same day. 

“Thank you for allowing us to serve musicians like you for 100 years. With much love and deep gratitude, The Ash Family,” the announcement posted on Instagram said. 

The first location in Brooklyn, New York, was opened by Sam Ash – who was an immigrant violinist – back in 1924. The business has remained in the family and is currently run by Ash’s “guitar obsessed grandson,” the company’s website explains. 

There are 42 locations across 16 states, according to the online store locator.
