Colorado radio DJ duo ending 18-year run

Slacker and Steve announced their show on radio station Alice 105.9 will be ending after nearly 18 years.

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. — A longtime radio DJ duo is ending after a nearly two-decade run in Denver.

Slacker and Steve announced Monday their show on radio station Alice 105.9 will be ending after nearly 18 years.

Steve is leaving the show, the pair announced Monday afternoon.

“Things have happened in the last week or so, the Slacker and Steve show as we’ve known these past 18 years is about to change,” Steve said.

“I’m leaving the show, there it is,” Steve said. “The Slacker and Steve show will no longer exist by the end of this week. Things behind the scenes have changed and we’ve come to a mutual decision and I think we’ve all decided it’s time for me to move on.”

Slacker said Steve has been around long enough and is important enough to deserve the victory lap.

Steve’s last day on Alice 105.9 will be on Friday.

“This sucks, this is awful,” Slacker said. “If you’re listening and you think we’re pranking you or whatever, we’re absolutely not. If you’ve been around radio long enough, you know what happens. Steve quits, Steve gets fired, or they mutually agree to split, you’re never hearing Steve again on this station.”

“In radio, you’re here today, gone tomorrow. Whatever happened to that person?” Steve said.

“Like gone in a way we have to pretend he never existed,” Slacker said.

“That’s how management usually plays it, but not this time,” Steve said. “[Management] was nice enough to say ‘Hey, 18 years together, you and Slacker. So, you have to get a chance to say goodbye,’ to everyone, clients, listeners, everybody I guess.”

“We’re going to do a week’s worth of shows and then we’re going to say a proper goodbye,” Slacker added.

Steve is leaving the show, and we’re all going to miss him dearly. We know you have a lot of questions, and we want to…
