16-year-old inmate dies after being found unconscious at Greeley facility

Greeley Police said they were called to Platte Valley Youth Services on Oct. 21 for a narcotics investigation. That is the same day the teen was found unconscious.

GREELEY, Colorado — A 16-year-old boy died this week after he was found unconscious in his room at a Greeley youth services facility on the same day officers responded there for a narcotics violation.

On Oct. 21, officers were called to Platte Valley Youth Services, located at 2200 O St., to investigate a suspected contraband narcotic found within the facility.

When they got there, they were told that an inmate had been found unconscious in his room hours earlier around 6:45 a.m.

That 16-year-old inmate was taken to a hospital for treatment. He remained in the intensive care unit at a Denver area hospital until he died on Nov. 5, according to Greeley Police.

Due to the seriousness of the teen’s condition and the fact that he was found that way while in custody, Greeley Police detectives responded to investigate the circumstances that led to his medical emergency.

The teen has not been identified, and no information was provided about what caused his death.
