Heavy snowfall continues through Saturday morning

The 9NEWS Weather Impact Team has called a Weather Impact Day for heavy snowfall Friday, Saturday morning.

DENVER — FORECAST BY: 9NEWS Weather Impact Team Meteorologist Laurann Robinson

THE FORECAST AT A GLANCE: A major winter storm is bearing down on the Denver metro area, with historic snow totals continuing across the eastern plains.

Heavy, wet snow continues across the front range, eastern plains, through midday Saturday. Denver International Airport has reported 9.0″ of snow, so far, with up to a foot of additional snowfall possible before this system moves out.

Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories are currently in-place across most of the high country, front range and eastern plains, through noon Saturday. These areas should prepare for a few inches to more than a foot of new snow, as we head through the next 24 hours. Watch for hazardous travel conditions!

Overnight, as temperatures fall into the upper 20s, prepare for slick side streets and sidewalks, as re-freeze is likely in infrequently traveled spaces.

Saturday, we’ll start the day with continued snow showers through the morning hours. Midday, precipitation will start to move out, but watch for lingering mountain snow showers, and rain showers along northern portions of the front range/plains, as temperatures rise into the 40s.
