DENVER — Denver Rescue Mission needs volunteers to help with meals this weekend because some of their regulars cannot make it in due to the snowstorm hitting Colorado.
Denver Rescue Mission typically sees an increase of people looking for shelters during storms. The Denver Rescue Mission planned on a few dozen extra hands to help them through it, but the volunteers aren’t able to get there because of the weather.
The organization is doing what it can with its staff, but Dennis VanKempen, president and CEO of Denver Rescue Mission, said your help is what keeps them going.
“We do have some volunteers that we called that were able to get here,” VanKempen said. “We have staff that are coming in from other locations, like our administration building that are coming to help. So, we’re doing all we can to meet the greater need. But it’s costing. We have to pay staff overtime that are working second shift and things like that.”
VanKempen said that storms like this cost them money that they don’t budget for.
Denver Rescue Mission still needs help with dinner Friday night, and all three meals Saturday. Click here for a list of available shifts.
Here’s a list of the other warm places to stay in Denver, as well. They will welcome people until 11 a.m. Saturday.
