Large police presence at Greeley hospital after shooting in parking lot

A spokesperson for the hospital said the shooting might have been related to domestic violence.

GREELEY, Colo. — There was a large police presence at the UCHealth Greeley Hospital after a reported shooting Thursday morning in the parking lot.

Greeley Police did not say whether anyone was hurt in the shooting at the hospital, located at 6767 W. 29th St. In an update, police said that as of 10:15 a.m., the suspect was “accounted for” and there was no ongoing threat.

Officers, detectives, and other first responders are expected to remain at the hospital for some time as they investigate what happened, police said.

As a precaution, Greeley Police said that UCHealth had placed the hospital on lockdown in response to the shooting.

In a statement, UCHealth said there was a “situation” in the parking lot and indicated that they were told by police that it might have been “an isolated case of domestic violence.”

The hospital also said they don’t believe there is an “ongoing” threat but said there would be extra security on campus to ensure the safety of patients, staff and visitors.”

Evans Police posted on their Facebook page that there was a heavy police presence in the area of Chappelow K-8 school, which is at 2001 34th St. That’s about a 15-minute drive from the UCHealth location.

9NEWS has a reporter at the scene and saw a home at 1912 McNitt St. that was damaged by fire. That home is directly behind the school.

In an updated post, Evans Police said the scene in the jurisdiction was “secure” and said the incident was a “continuation” of an event in Greeley, but did not provide details about the Greeley event.

Anyone who has information about the shooting and has not spoken with officers is asked to call Greeley Police at 970-350-9605.
