Bo Nix wins NFL honor

He joins Clinton Portis and Mike Anderson as the only players in Broncos history to win the award.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Bo Nix was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for October, the NFL announced Thursday.

Yes, Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels is the prohibitive favorite to win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award and rightly so.

Daniels is the seventh-ranked NFL passer, while the Bears’ Caleb Williams is 21st and Nix is 26th. Daniels is also No. 2 to Lamar Jackson among quarterbacks with 424 rushing yards while Nix is fourth with 259.

And then Daniels had his signature play with his final-play Hail Mary, deflected touchdown pass that lifted the Commanders to an improbable win against Williams’ Bears on Sunday.

But Daniels better keep playing well in the season’s second half because here comes Bo.

Nix just became the first Bronco since Clinton Portis in 2002 to be named the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Month. In the month of October, Nix led the Broncos to a 3-1 mark while throwing for 870 yards and 7 touchdowns against just 1 interception for a 102.7 rating.

Nix also rushed for 149 and two more touchdowns.

While Nix started slow, throwing zero touchdowns against 4 interceptions during the Broncos’ 0-2 start, he has improved dramatically since then in helping the Broncos win five of their next six games heading into this Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Jacksonville receiver Brian Thomas (33 catches, 573 yards, 5 TDs) and Raiders’ tight end Brock Bowers (52 catches, 535 yards, 1 TD) should also receiver Offensive Rookie of the Year consideration. But most likely the award will go to one of the three, first-round quarterbacks who have started for their respective teams since game 1 — Daniels, Nix or Williams.
