Near record heat Sunday and Monday to near freezing Wednesday.

A classic Denver weather swing is on the way with highs close to 80 degrees on Mon and Tue, possibly a rain/snow mix on Wednesday morning.

DENVER — FORECAST BY: 9NEWS Weather Impact Team Meteorologists Cory Reppenhagen

THE FORECAST AT A GLANCE:

Another unusually warm day is in the forecast for Sunday with high temperatures near 80 degrees in the Denver area, and that heat will carry over into Monday. The record for Sunday is 83° set in 2016 and Monday’s record is 82°, also from 2016.

The warm, dry weather will elevate the fire danger in Colorado Sunday and Monday. So far, the only red flag warnings are to the north of Colorado on Sunday, but most of our area will be teetering on the edge of criteria. Please be careful.

Clouds and winds will be on the increase as we head into Monday due to an approaching storm. Starting Tuesday, the strong storm will bring moderate to heavy mountain snow, a major drop in temperature and potentially the first snow of the season to the lower elevations, including Denver and the I-25 urban corridor.

Best chance for snow in the Denver area will be on Wednesday morning, but I wouldn’t get too excited about it. If the snow does accumulate, the totals are likely to be under an inch in Denver. Still plenty of time for the forecast to evolve so stay tuned.

Looking ahead to Halloween, it actually doesn’t look too bad. Right now, we are thinking the temperatures during Trick-or-Treat time should be in the 40s around Denver with a light wind.

SUNDAY: Mostly sunny and very warm, high 79. It will be breezy at times, especially during the afternoon. A few clouds overnight, low 49.

MONDAY: Increasing clouds and windy with elevated fire danger, high 78. Mostly cloudy overnight, low 45.

WEDNESDAY: Cloudy and chilly with morning snow showers, high 45. Partly cloudy overnight, low 28.

THURSDAY (HALLOWEEN): Partly cloudy and seasonal, high 55. Partly cloudy overnight, low 30.

FRIDAY: Mostly sunny and cool, high 59. Mostly clear and chilly overnight, low 31.

SATURDAY: Mostly sunny and warm, high 73. Quiet and dry overnight, low 42.
