Low pressure stalling over Arizona will keep weekend cool, unsettled

The best chance to see rain and snow from this storm will be over southern Colorado.

DENVER — FORECAST BY: 9NEWS Weather Impact Team Meteorologist Chris Spears

FORECAST AT A GLANCE: A large area of low pressure will spin over Arizona today, keeping Colorado cool and unsettled. After several days with unusually warm high temperatures we will see near to below normal readings for most locations today.

As far as rain and snow, most of that will stay across southern Colorado due to the position of the low pressure. We have already seen, and will continue to see, beneficial snowfall in the San Juan Mountains and Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Travel along Highways 160 and 550 could be difficult at pass level today, tonight and even into the first part of Sunday.

The higher peaks in the San Juans could see another 10-20 inches of snow. We could see as much as 8-12 inches of snow in the Wet Mountains, Sangre de Cristo Mountains and the eastern Sawatch Mountains.

In Denver, we will see extensive cloud cover and areas of fog and sprinkles. A few rain showers are possible but most of the active weather will stay south of Interstate 70.

On Sunday, the area of low pressure will move across Colorado and then to our northeast by Monday. As it passes over the state, we’ll see snow spread from south to north across the mountains. In Denver, we will have another chance at some passing showers or sprinkles. It will also be breezy and a little warmer.

SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy and cool with a few sprinkles or showers, mostly during the morning hours. High 55. Mostly cloudy overnight, low 42.

SUNDAY: Partly cloudy and breezy at times with a few afternoon or evening rain showers, high 66. Partly cloudy overnight, low 44.

MONDAY: Becoming mostly sunny and mild, high 70. Mostly clear overnight, low 45.

TUESDAY: Mostly sunny and mild, high 76. Mostly clear overnight, low 46.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny and mild, high 69. Mostly clear overnight, low 44.

THURSDAY: Mostly sunny and mild, high 77. Mostly clear overnight, low 48.

FRIDAY: Mostly sunny and mild, high 76. Partly cloudy overnight, low 47.
