CSU lifts shelter-in-place for 3 residence halls, 1 person found dead

Earlier Wednesday, CSU said people in the area of Laurel Village, Durward Hall and Corbett Hall should remain inside their rooms due to unspecified police activity.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Colorado State University announced the death of one person after lifting a shelter-in-place around three residence halls just before noon Wednesday but still asked people to avoid the area.

CSU Police said when officers arrived at Alpine Hall on campus for a welfare check on Wednesday morning. When officers entered the room and found “an unresponsive individual and requested immediate medical assistance.” 

The cause of death is unknown and the name of the person who died is not being released at this time, said police. 

There was a large police presence in the area of Laurel Village, Durward Hall and Corbett Hall. At about 10:30 a.m. Residents were asked to remain inside their rooms due to unspecified police activity. The shelter-in-place was lifted about 11:50 a.m.

People were asked to avoid the area as an investigation continued.
