Another very warm, dry weekend in store for Colorado

With no rain in sight, our fire danger will remain elevated into next week.

DENVER — FORECAST BY: 9NEWS Weather Impact Team Meteorologist Chris Spears

FORECAST AT A GLANCE:

Get ready for another very warm weekend across the state as highs climb well into the 70s and 80s just about statewide. A few places on the southeast plains will approach 90 degrees! Even the mountains are warm with highs well into the 60s as high as tree line. To put this into perspective, the average high in Denver for Oct. 12 is 66 degrees.

Skies will be hazy in northern Colorado this weekend due to wildfire smoke coming from fires in Utah and Wyoming. We’ll also see some afternoon clouds today with the approach of a weak, but dry, cold front. That front will cool us down a few degrees on Sunday.

We’ll see more of the same for at least the next 5 days as a big ridge of high pressure stays parked over the western United States. That means highs and lows will continue to run at least 10-15 degrees above normal for this time of year.

Denver’s normal first freeze of the season is around October 7. So far this year our coldest official temperature has been 39 degrees back on Oct 1. The normal first measurable snow of the season is around October 18. A measurable snow is defined an accumulation of 0.1″ or more.

Looking ahead, there is a potential change brewing way out over the Gulf of Alaska. By next weekend, a trough of low pressure should begin to impact the region. While a lot can change with the forecast, at this time it looks like we could be in for much cooler temperatures along with a chance for lower elevation rain and light mountain snow. Stay tuned to see how this evolves!
