‘No longer a threat in the area’ after 2 officers shot and injured in Thornton

The shooting happened Wednesday morning near a home in the 16000 block of Columbine Street. Police said “there is no longer a threat in the area.”

THORNTON, Colo. — Two officers were shot and suffered injuries that don’t appear to be life-threatening on Wednesday morning after reports of gunfire from inside a Thornton home.

Thornton Police said on social media that the injured officers were being attended to by medical units on scene, near the home in the 16000 block of Columbine Street.

9NEWS reporter Briana Fernandez, who is at the scene, said she heard one of the injured officers say he had been shot in the arm. She said both officers were up and walking around after being injured. 

According to Thornton Police, officers responded after someone reported that shots were heard inside the home. Before the shooting, SKY9 showed a large police presence in the area with officers using a megaphone. Police said they were working to make contact with those inside the home.

Just before 10 a.m., SKY9 showed a medical helicopter arrive on scene. Thornton Police said the helicopter is for staging if needed.

Police said just after 10:30 a.m. that “there is no longer a threat in the area.” They said all emergency alerts have been lifted.
