2 officers shot after gunfire reported inside home in Thornton

The shooting happened Wednesday morning near a home in the 16000 block of Columbine Street.

THORNTON, Colo. — Two officers were shot and suffered injuries that don’t appear to be life-threatening on Wednesday morning after reports of gunfire from inside a Thornton home.

Thornton Police said on social media that the injured officers were being attended to by medical units on scene. Just before 10 a.m., SKY9 showed a medical helicopter arrive on scene.

9NEWS reporter Briana Fernandez, who is at the scene, said she heard one of the injured officers say he had been shot in the arm. She said both officers were up and walking around after being injured. 

According to Thornton Police, officers responded to a home in the 16000 block of Columbine Street after someone reported that shots were heard inside the home.

SKY9 showed a large police presence in the area with officers using a megaphone. Police said they’re working to make contact with those inside the home.
