The smoke is coming from wildfires outside of Colorado, fires burning in Wyoming and Utah, and it could be thick at times, especially overnight and into Monday.
DENVER — FORECAST BY: 9NEWS Weather Impact Team Meteorologist Kathy Sabine
THE FORECAST AT A GLANCE:
A beautiful Fall day with sunshine and mid 70s, a little cooler today after our record high of 87 degrees in Denver on Saturday.
Fair skies this evening with areas of smoke from wildfires burning outside of Colorado. No air quality alerts posted but the beautiful blue sky will be obscured from time to time tonight and Monday.
The new work week will start off with more of the same, including wildfire smoke. Highs will remain well above normal for this time of year with highs in the 70s in mountains and highs above the average of 70 degrees across the lower elevations, including Denver and the eastern plains.
All eyes are on the upcoming weekend because there are some indications in the computer forecast models that we may finally see a shift in our weather pattern. The data points to much cooler air working into the state along with a chance for some rain and mountain snow. That picture will become more clear in the next few days. Right now the temperature trend is cooler with highs potentially in the 60s and 70s over the weekend but unfortunately not a lot of precipitation.
