Red Flag Warnings, Fire Weather Watches go up as we move into the weekend.
DENVER — FORECAST BY: 9NEWS Weather Impact Team Meteorologist Laurann Robinson
FORECAST AT A GLANCE:
Much cooler (and seasonal) Thursday afternoon, as highs dropped into the lower 70s across the front range.
Friday, afternoon highs bounce back into the lower 80s, under hazy skies from wildfires in neighboring states.
We hit 89 degrees yesterday, tying our warmest October day in 132 years. A dry cold front this morning will put a brief end to that type of heat though, with highs close to 20 degrees cooler with a brief spike in winds behind the front this morning.
That same northerly pull of air will also bring us some wildfire smoke from the Elk and Pack Trail fires burning in Wyoming, so you’ll likely notice some haze throughout the day today as well.
Temperatures spike right back up tomorrow with a high in the mid-80s, not far off from a daily record in Denver (record: 87°). We get even hotter for Saturday, with a high near 90° (record: 86°) and increased wind as well. That’ll kick up our fire danger for Saturday in particular.
A front drops our highs back near 80° for Sunday, and we stay in the low 80s most of next week. There are some hints that the mountains should at least get some storm chances mid-to-late next week, and we may cool down along the Front Range with some rain chances next weekend (Oct. 12-13).
Until then though, it’s mostly full-fledged summer weather.
