Big cooldown today with hazy skies; much warmer tomorrow

If you like fall, enjoy today: We’ll have seasonal temperatures before we spike right back up into the 80s for Friday and Saturday.

DENVER — FORECAST BY: 9NEWS Weather Impact Team Meteorologist Chris Bianchi

FORECAST AT A GLANCE:

If you’re looking for fall-like weather, enjoy today: We’ve got a morning cold front that’ll drop our temperatures significantly this morning and likely only keep us in the low 70s for a high in Denver today.

We hit 89 degrees yesterday, tying our warmest October day in 132 years. A dry cold front this morning will put a brief end to that type of heat though, with highs close to 20 degrees cooler with a brief spike in winds behind the front this morning.

That same northerly pull of air will also bring us some wildfire smoke from the Elk and Pack Trail fires burning in Wyoming, so you’ll likely notice some haze throughout the day today as well.

Temperatures spike right back up tomorrow with a high in the mid-80s, not far off from a daily record in Denver (record: 87°). We get even hotter for Saturday, with a high near 90° (record: 86°) and increased wind as well. That’ll kick up our fire danger for Saturday in particular.

A front drops our highs back near 80° for Sunday, and we stay in the low 80s most of next week. There are some hints that the mountains should at least get some storm chances mid-to-late next week, and we may cool down along the Front Range with some rain chances next weekend (Oct. 12-13).

Until then though, it’s mostly full-fledged summer weather.

THURSDAY: Mostly sunny, hazy, and notably cooler, high 72. Mostly clear overnight, low 43.

FRIDAY: Mostly sunny and warm, high 85 (record: 87°). Mostly clear overnight, low 55.

SATURDAY: Mostly sunny and warm, high 88 (record: 86°). Mostly clear overnight, low 47.

SUNDAY: Mostly sunny and mild, high 80. Mostly clear overnight, low 50.

MONDAY: Mostly sunny and mild, high 82 (record: 87°). Mostly clear overnight, low 51.

TUESDAY: Mostly sunny and warm, high 84 (record: 85°). Mostly clear overnight, low 52.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny and warm, high 82. Mostly clear overnight, low 52.

THURSDAY: Mostly sunny and still warm, high 81. Mostly clear overnight, low 51.
