Our unusually warm dry weather pattern continues into the new week with sunshine and highs above the average of 74 degrees most of the week! Elevated fire danger!
DENVER — FORECAST BY: 9NEWS Weather Impact Team Meteorologist Kathy Sabine
TODAY AT A GLANCE:
Record high temperature tied at DIA Sunday as Colorado’s warm dry stretch of weather continues into next week.
The dominant ridge of high pressure over Colorado and the west has brought unusually warm and dry weather to the region. Typically in late September our average high is around 74 degrees.
Warm and windy weather will create elevated fire danger this week. A series of weak dry fronts will do little to offer relief and instead will bring above average highs all week with the potential for another record high on Wednesday.
We are tracking a weak cool front for Monday morning that will bring some wind and Red Flag Warning and Fire Weather Watch conditions during the first half of the day as the front moves through. Temperatures will be a little milder Monday in the lower 80s, ahead of a cooler day Tuesday with highs in the 70s..
As we sit between the ridge of the west and a trough to our north a dry northwesterly flow will continue over the region this week for the last few days of September and the first few days of October.
Note: It’s been a very warm September, in Denver, with an average temperature of 69.8° through the 27th. We are currently in first place on the list of warmest Septembers observed. Unfortunately, our very warm forecast will ensure we keep this ranking in Denver’s weather history.
