Charlie Blackmon answers the burning question of whether he’ll keep the beard after retirement

When the Colorado Rockies legend talked with the media Tuesday about his retirement at season’s end, the question came up: “Does the beard come with you?”

DENVER — The day after he announced his retirement from the Colorado Rockies, Charlie Blackmon took the big questions from the media. Among them: “Does the beard come with you?”

Blackmon announced via social media Monday that he will retire at the end of this season after playing 14 seasons in the major leagues, all in a Colorado uniform. The Rockies will celebrate their legendary outfielder, who is the longest-tenured active Rockies player, through the final series of the season this weekend at Coors Field.

Blackmon talked with the media at a news conference Tuesday afternoon, and the question of the beard inevitably came up.

“Such a good question,” he said. “My wife’s actually never seen me without it, though I’m a little bit concerned how that would be received at home. I think there will be a time. I’m not going to put any dates on it for you, but I think there will be a time where I will have to reveal my naked face to my family. And clean it up, get a nice haircut and whatever, just to say that I’ve done it. But then after that, all bets are off.”

Since his 2011 debut with the Rockies, there’s been a 14-year Blackmon beard evolution right before our eyes.
