Sunny and warm through Friday before big changes this weekend

After the stormiest September day in Colorado history on Tuesday, the Front Range will be treated to sunny and warm conditions to end the week.

DENVER — FORECAST BY: 9NEWS Weather Impact Team Meteorologist Chris Bianchi

THE FORECAST AT A GLANCE:

After a wind-whipped line of storms moved through yesterday, today looks much calmer with highs in the lower 80s and mostly sunny skies. It’ll be a bit breezy in the foothills mainly this morning, but those winds should gradually relax through the day.

Winds in the foothills could top out in the 40-50 mph range in the most wind-prone spots this morning before those gusts taper through the afternoon.

That breezy sunshine will be our main weather story through Friday, with highs notching up into the mid-80s for tomorrow (Denver average high for today and tomorrow: 79°), and perhaps into the upper 80s ahead of our next big storm system.

A big trough of low pressure will inch its way in our direction on Friday and Saturday, with the potential for several hours of steady rain along the Front Range on Saturday night into Sunday morning. The same storm could also lead to snow down to pass level for the first time this season in the high country, especially along and north of I-70.

Temperatures will be the other big impact from this storm system, with highs dropping to just around 70° for a high on Saturday and we may barely climb into the low 60s on Sunday with mainly cloudy conditions. That could disrupt both the CU football game and the Colorado Rapids home games on Saturday night as well.

We’ll keep you posted with the latest on this potentially higher-impact storm system; we’ve put out a Potential Weather Impact Day for both Saturday and Sunday for the possibility of widespread rain and several inches of slushy mountain snow above 9,000 feet.
