Warm and dry today with a better chance for storms on Wednesday

There’s a very slight chance for a brief gusty storm today, but storm odds tick up for tomorrow.

DENVER — FORECAST BY: 9NEWS Weather Impact Team Meteorologist Chris Bianchi

THE FORECAST AT A GLANCE:

Our summer-like weather continues today with a high around 90 degrees in Denver, and only a very slight chance (10-20%) for a brief gusty shower or storm this afternoon. Most stay dry, and don’t plan around these storms; they’ll mainly produce gusty wind and a few rain drops, and that’s about it.

Today’s likely to be our 60th day at or above 90 degrees so far this year, and that’ll push us into the top-5 mark all-time for 90-degree days in a single year in Denver.

Meanwhile, mid-to-high level moisture increases for tomorrow ahead of a trough of low pressure, and that’ll push up our storm odds as well. Look for widespread but brief gusty showers and storms across the metro area, with about a 40-50 percent chance for a storm. These’ll mainly come between 3-7 p.m., and these are not washout types of storms. Rather, look for a brief downpour and push of gusty winds, along with a few claps of thunder. Highs cool into the upper 80s with the added cloud cover.

We warm right back up into the low 90s with breezy weather for Thursday (record: 94°), and we could increase our fire danger as well unfortunately with those dry, gusty winds and warm temperatures.

A weak front drops our temperatures and lowers our wind for Friday and into the weekend, with highs in the mid-to-upper 80s for Friday and next weekend.

Our next big chance could come late next week and next weekend, with a big trough of low pressure that’ll approach from the west. Just how close it gets to us will determine how cool and potentially wet we might get, but it’ll probably bring us at least a bit of a prolonged fall-like feel.

Until then, enjoy the summer-like weather and watch for that fire danger later this week!
