After a mild start to the week with sunshine and upper 50s Monday we are tracking a Pacific storm that will bring snow showers to the mountains starting tonight.
DENVER — FORECAST BY: 9NEWS Weather Impact Team Meteorologist Kathy Sabine
The Forecast at a Glance:
After a mild, dry start to the week with sunshine and highs near 60 today, a storm system will be crossing Colorado from the northwest. Snow showers are already showing up on the radar this evening. At this point no winter weather or travel advisories posted.
There are no winter weather alerts in the high country as the snow accumulation should stay on the modest side with 2-6 inches by Tuesday afternoon, mainly above 10,000 feet in elevation. However, wind gusts could reach the 50 mph range in some spots.
On the Front Range urban corridor, look for windy and cooler weather overnight with scattered morning snow showers between 5 am and 8 am. We do not have accumulation in the forecast for Denver but this snow showers could impact the morning drive due to timing.
Temperatures drop significantly tomorrow as the front moves through. A cold northwest wind will blow much of the day making it feel colder than the forecast high of 39 degrees. Some spots south and east of Denver could see a light dusting of snow above 6000 feet.
On the back end of the storm, look for chilly, breezy conditions lasting into Wednesday, but then high pressure regains its hold on the region with a warm end to the week. Highs will be close to 60 degrees in Denver Thursday through Sunday.
We’ll then watch for another pattern flip for next week, with Sunday and Monday potentially bringing mountain snow and perhaps some snow into the urban corridor as well. Next week (including Thanksgiving) is looking chilly after this week’s warmth.
