Stewart qualified for the NHRA Finals in Pamona, California before flying to Phoenix for the birth of his son, Dominic James.
POMONA, Calif. — Former NASCAR and IndyCar champion Tony Stewart, along with his wife, former NHRA driver Leah Pruett, celebrated the birth of their son before heading back to the dragstrip over the weekend.
In a social media post made Sunday afternoon, Stewart’s racing team, Tony Stewart Racing, posted a photo showing the couple holding their newborn son, Dominic James. The post says that Stewart was out in Pomona, California qualifying for the NHRA Finals before traveling to Phoenix for the delivery.
Stewart was able to make it back to the dragstrip in time, but was eliminated in the semifinal round by Doug Kalitta. Despite the elimination, Stewart will finish tenth in the final NHRA points standings.
Now in the off-season, Stewart and Pruett can focus on just being parents.
