Mild Monday ahead of a cold, windy Tuesday with snow showers

We could get some bursts of snow in the high country tonight with our next storm system, while Denver could see a few flurries or snow showers tomorrow morning.

DENVER — FORECAST BY: 9NEWS Weather Impact Team Meteorologists Cory Reppenhagen and Chris Bianchi

The Forecast at a Glance:

Two storm systems will brush by Colorado today, with one bringing a few rain showers to the far southeastern corner of the state, and another pushing in mountain snowfall starting later today and peaking tonight. The Denver area could see a few snow showers tomorrow morning, though they look to be low impact.

Expect a few squally snow showers to move across the Colorado mountains in the late morning and early afternoon, turning to more widespread mountain snow by about 9 or 10 pm.

There are no winter weather alerts in the high country as the snow accumulation should stay on the modest side with 1-6 inches by Tuesday afternoon, mainly above 10,000 feet in elevation. However, wind gusts could reach the 50 mph range in some spots.

On the Front Range urban corridor, expect a few more clouds for today but with temperatures still reaching into the middle to upper 50’s. It will likely be another breezy day but winds generally staying lighter than 20 mph. Clouds will increase tonight ahead of our next front and storm system.

Temperatures drop significantly on Tuesday as a wave of early morning snow showers moves across the Denver area along a wintry cold front. Little to no accumulation is expected, but expect a cool and breezy day with high temperatures possibly staying in the 30s in the Denver area. Some spots south and east of Denver could pick up an inch or two of accumulation, mainly on colder surfaces.

On the back end of the storm, look for chilly, breezy conditions lasting into Wednesday, but then high pressure regains its hold on the region with a warm end to the week. Highs will be close to 60 degrees in Denver Thursday through Sunday.

We’ll then watch for another pattern flip for next week, with Sunday and Monday potentially bringing mountain snow and perhaps some snow into the urban corridor as well. Next week (including Thanksgiving) is looking chilly after this week’s warmth.
