Former Larimer County deputy district attorney sentenced for sexual assault

FORT COLLINS, Colo. — A former Larimer County deputy district attorney, Daniel Quinn, was sentenced on Monday for sexual assault on a former intern.

Quinn pleaded guilty to one count of third-degree sexual assault in September, stemming from an incident that took place in 1999, when the victim was a 16- and 17-year-old intern under his supervision. Quinn worked for the 8th Judicial District Attorney’s Office in the 1990s.

During his sentencing hearing, Quinn was ordered to register as a sex offender and undergo at least one year of sex offender treatment. The victim, who remains anonymous, spoke in court. She detailed how the assault has impacted her life for the past 25 years.

The sentencing hearing lasted about an hour and a half, with several of the victim’s friends also testifying in her support. 

While Quinn did not speak during the hearing, his attorney addressed the court, stating that Quinn “never took this lightly” and understood the severity of his actions. Quinn’s daughter testified that he is a “great dad and grandfather.”

The district attorney’s office said it became aware of the sexual abuse from a potential civil lawsuit in December 2022 and asked the Larimer County attorney to investigate the claims. The criminal case against Quinn was filed in October 2023.

Quinn was sentenced to four years of supervised probation. The court also issued a deferred sentence, which means that if Quinn complies with the terms of his probation, his case could be revisited after four years. In that case, the charge may be removed from his criminal record.
