Jewish Family Service received dozens of solar panels on Friday – the latest nonprofit organization to benefit from the program.
DENVER — Jewish Family Service, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting individuals and families in need, is the latest organization to benefit from Denver’s Solar and EV Charging Funding Program.
The funding, which is part of the city’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions and encourage clean energy, helps nonprofit organizations install solar panels and EV charging stations. The program covers up to 100% of the cost, and nonprofits get financial relief from lowering their energy costs.
“We’ve been looking at solar for several years, but because of the costs, we were not able to do it,” said Linda Foster, president of Jewish Family Service (JFS). “With 92% of our electric bill savings, those are funds that can go to our programs.”
For JFS, which provides services from food assistance to financial counseling, every dollar saved on operating costs is a dollar that can go to the organization’s mission of helping those in need, Foster said.
JFS’ food pantry plays a central role in its mission. Clients select what they need, rather than receiving prepackaged bags of food, ensuring that families get the food that fits their dietary needs and preferences.
“They come in and they shop. They shop for the food that’s appropriate for their family,” Foster said, describing the pantry’s services for those in need.
Reducing overhead costs like electricity enables Jewish Family Service to continue providing this service, she said.
The City of Denver’s Solar and EV Charging Funding Program is part of the city’s broader climate action and sustainability efforts. By providing funding for solar energy systems and electric vehicle infrastructure, the city helps nonprofits reduce their carbon footprints while improving financial stability.
Eligible nonprofit organizations are encouraged to apply for grants to help with the costs of installing solar panels and EV charging stations. For more information about the Solar and EV Charging Funding Program, including how to apply, visit the City of Denver’s official website.
