Highs will top out near 60 degrees in Denver today ahead of a dry weekend, but we do have changes in store for next week.
DENVER — FORECAST BY: 9NEWS Weather Impact Team Meteorologists Cory Reppenhagen and Chris Bianchi
THE FORECAST AT A GLANCE:
The results are in from last week’s big snowstorm in Colorado. Almost all of the drought conditions in Colorado have been erased in the latest update to the National Drought Monitor released on Thursday.
Only 10% of the state is still in some form of drought, and that is mostly focused on the Front Range. There is still a patch of level 3 Extreme drought near Fort Collins which saw the least amount of precipitation from last week’s storm system.
The next storm system is on our doorstep, but today should be mainly a mild and dry day across the state. A wave of high clouds may roll across the area in the morning but expect the skies to clear in the afternoon hours. Temperatures are forecast to warm into the 50’s before sunset.
By Saturday morning, isolated snow showers will develop early in the mountains and last into the nighttime hours. Some parts of the northern mountains could get 1-4 inches of snow above 10,000 feet by the time the snow ends on Saturday night, but the mountain towns will likely just see a dusting.
No meaningful precipitation is forecast on the Front Range Saturday, but there could be a few isolated sprinkles of rain near sunset. It will be windy at times in the foothills on Friday night and Saturday morning ahead of this storm, with some 50 mph gusts possible at higher passes like Berthoud and Loveland Pass.
A secondary storm will help bring the mountains some more significant snow on Monday night into the day on Tuesday. It does look like the Denver metro area and other parts of the Front Range will have a good chance to pick up some light snow accumulation on Tuesday, though this doesn’t look like a big storm for the metro are.
The mountains could get a widespread 3-8 inches of accumulation on Tuesday, while the Denver area is likely looking at a dusting to 3 inch-type of event, mostly during the daytime hours on Tuesday.
We’ll have more details on that storm as it gets closer, but in the meantime, enjoy the milder and mainly dry weather!
