OURAY COUNTY, Colo. — Colorado’s Million Dollar Highway was closed Wednesday morning after a boulder fell onto the road.
U.S. 550 Red Mountain Pass is closed between Silverton and Ouray early Wednesday as crews work to remove the large rock.
The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) said the boulder will require downsizing in order to remove it from the highway. CDOT said its crews began work at first light Wednesday, but it is unknown when the legendary Colorado highway will reopen.
CDOT said travelers can consider the alternate route via CO Highway 145 through Telluride.
