Avs face Jets on 9NEWS

The Colorado Avalanche look to start a winning streak against one of the hottest teams in the NHL.

DENVER — The Colorado Avalanche are looking to start a winning streak Thursday night against the Winnipeg Jets. You can catch all the action on 9NEWS and KTVD Channel 20.

Coming off a 6-3 win against the Seattle Kraken, Colorado looks to use that momentum against the top team in the Central Division. This will be no easy task as Winnipeg has lost only one game this season.

Currently, the Avalanche sit in sixth place in the division with 12 points. Colorado is 12 points behind Winnipeg in the standings so a win in regulation tonight would be big.

The Avalanche got off to a slow start to begin the season, dropping their first four games before earning their first win in overtime against the Anaheim Ducks. Colorado has gone 5-3 since that win.

The Jets started out strong, winning their first eight games of the season before a 6-4 loss to Toronto. The Jets have been on a 4-game winning streak since that loss.

Puckdrop will be at 6 p.m. from the Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg.

Players to watch

Artturi Lehkonen played his first game this season for the Avalanche after getting injured in the Stanley Cup playoffs last season. Lehkonen made an instant impact for the team, scoring the go-ahead goal against Seattle on Tuesday night.

Cale Makar, the league’s top-scoring defenseman, will be a game-time decision according to coach Jared Bednar. Makar left Tuesday’s game with a lower-body injury.

Winnipeg goalie Connor Hellebuyck is leading the league in shutouts and is one of the top goalies in save percentage and goals against average. The Avalanche will have their work cut out for them if they are going to come away with two points tonight.
