Winter weather alerts continue across the metro area after a widespread 3-6 inches of snow overnight.
DENVER — FORECAST BY: 9NEWS Weather Impact Team Meteorologist Chris Bianchi
THE FORECAST AT A GLANCE:
Winter weather alerts continue through today across the metro area after a widespread 3-6 inches of snow overnight, and more on the way, mostly this morning.
Snow continues will be heavier and steadier south and west of downtown Denver, where there’s better upslope, and across the Eastern Plains as well. Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories continue through tonight as a result.
We’ll gradually clear out the snow this morning and early this afternoon, with mostly flurries for this afternoon and some blustery conditions, with gusts up to 20-25 mph in town. For Douglas County and the Eastern Plains, that accumulating snow will stick around all day and potentially tonight, leading to the highest totals out there.
Highs only top out in the mid-30s in the Denver area today.
The big question is what happens with the parent area of low pressure that’s whipping up our current snow. It’ll meander through New Mexico for the next 24-36 hours before eventually kicking out onto the Eastern Plains. How it tracks will determine who sees a bunch of snow and who may mostly miss out, and we’ll know more soon. But the current lean is someone is going to get a big storm, the main question is who it will be.
However, be ready for an impactful snow for Friday night and Saturday morning. We could have several inches of snow on the Eastern Plains and perhaps in the metro area as well. Stay tuned and keep those snow shovels out!
