How much snow is possible in Colorado this week?

A wintry week of weather ahead for Colorado with several rounds of snow. Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories in effect in Colorado.

DENVER — The 9NEWS Weather Impact Team has issued a Weather Impact Day on Monday for snow in the Front Range foothills and the mountains of Colorado.

The National Weather Service has issued Winter Weather Advisories and Winter Storm Warnings until 11 a.m. Monday for western counties across Colorado. A few more inches of snow are anticipated before the storm ends late Monday morning.

Snow will gradually dissipate Monday morning across the Denver metro areas as sunshine is likely to return Monday afternoon. Areas south of the Denver area could see 2-5 inches from this storm.

More snow is on the way to Colorado later this week. The 9NEWS Weather Impact Team has also issued a Weather Impact Day for Wednesday, with a slower, stronger storm system likely to bring accumulating snow to the Denver area.

According to the 9NEWS Weather Impact Team, snow totals with Wednesday’s storm will vary widely. The foothills west of Denver will probably get several inches of snow, while areas north and east of Denver may only see a dusting to an inch.

The big question for Wednesday’s storm will be where and how it moves. The 9NEWS Weather Impact Team said the storm is a so-called “cutoff low,” meaning it’s detached from the jet stream with nothing to move it.

That means the storm will likely sit and spin for several days, pumping in snow to southern Colorado before potential moving back over the eastern plains and bringing another bigger storm with it.

Colorado should plan for a wintry week ahead with several rounds of snow. In addition to Wednesday, there is another chance at snow on Friday night and Saturday morning.
