THE FORECAST AT A GLANCE:

Much colder and wet, Wednesday afternoon.

The 9NEWS Weather Impact Team has issued a Weather Impact Day for the drastic drop in temperatures, a rain/snow mix across Colorado and the first hard freeze overnight, into early Thursday morning.

Highs dropped nearly 40 degrees from a high of 82 on Monday, to highs in the middle 40s, Wednesday afternoon. Additionally, scattered snow showers continue across the high country, into the foothills, before drying up as they push into the front range. Northern portions of the Urban Corridor could see some late-day showers, along with the Palmer Divide, but Denver could miss out on any meaningful precipitation. The eastern plains, on the other hand, will continue to see heavy rain and snow showers through the overnight hours.

Winter Weather Advisories are in-place for central portions of the high country, for 2 to 7 inches of additional snowfall by 6 p.m. These areas should watch for winds gusting up to 35 mph to create blowing snow, reduced visibility and hazardous travel. Be careful on the high country roadways!

Overnight, skies clear, but chilly weather lingers. The entire I-25 corridor, including the Denver metro area, will see its first hard freeze of the season. Denver is forecast to drop to 25 degrees tonight, with some lower 20s likely across the plains. Freeze Warnings will go into effect tonight through Thursday morning, so make sure to take care of your sensitive vegetation!

Sunshine returns for Halloween, along with rebounding temperatures (after a frigid morning). Afternoon highs are expected to approach 60 degrees across the eastern half of Colorado (seasonal for this time of year).

For the weekend, even warmer weather settles in. Look for highs to climb into the lower to middle 60s, Friday through Sunday, under a mix of sun and clouds.

Our next wintry system is looking to arrive by next Monday, so stay tuned for more details in the coming days!
