High clouds and high 70s Sunday and Monday. Cooler Tuesday with afternoon showers mixing with snow Wednesday morning!
DENVER — FORECAST BY: 9NEWS Weather Impact Team Meteorologist Kathy Sabine
THE FORECAST AT A GLANCE:
The last Sunday of October 2024 was a very warm one across Colorado with highs ranging from the 60s in the mountains to the 70s on the eastern plains and western slope. A few locations along and east of Interstate 25 may even top 80 degrees. The record high today in Denver is 83° set in 2016 and tomorrow’s record is 82°, also set in 2016.
If you have any outdoor plans today or tomorrow it will be dry with partly to mostly sunny skies. It will be breezy at times with a wind blowing out of the south and southwest. That wind will really pick up on Monday creating fire weather concerns, especially on the eastern plains. The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for the southeast plains and from Colorado Springs to Pueblo on Monday due to the unusually warm, dry and windy forecast.
Our next storm is currently moving into the Pacific Northwest. It will drop into the Great Basin over the next 24 hours. As long as nothing changes with the speed or track of this system, we should see snow start to fall in our mountains sometime late Monday.
We already have a Winter Storm Watch posted for the eastern San Juan Mountains where more than a foot of snow could fall above 10,000 feet. Additional winter weather alerts are possible as the forecast becomes more clear. Tuesday looks to feature widespread light to moderate snow across the high country, so keep that in mind if you are making any travel plans.
For Denver, it will be much cooler on Tuesday, and turning cloudy, but we don’t expect rain showers to develop until later in the day. For some areas it may not rain until the evening or overnight hours. Then on Wednesday, we expect the day to start off with a rain and snow mix around the city, with all precipitation ending by the evening.
It is still too early to say if this will be Denver’s first accumulating snow of the season. For that to happen, all we need is 0.1″ of snow to accumulate at the official weather station.
Your Halloween looks dry with temperatures close to where they should be for this time of year. Denver area temps should be in the 40s around sunset.
