Southbound I-25 back open after deadly rollover crash in Colorado Springs

One person was killed and at least one other person was taken to a hospital in critical condition, according to Colorado Springs Police.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — One person is dead and at least one other was taken to a hospital after a rollover crash in Colorado Springs that closed the southbound lanes of Interstate 25 on Saturday.

The crash, which involved three people in one heavy equipment service truck and one car, happened just after 10 a.m. Saturday in the area of I-25 and the Martin Luther King Jr Bypass (MLK), according to Ira Cronin, a Colorado Springs Police Department spokesperson.

One person died and at least one other was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, Cronin said.

At 10:20 a.m., the Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) said teams were on the scene of the crash, reporting that there were people trapped in a vehicle. In an update, the fire department said one person was extricated.

The crash did not have an environmental impact, as the fire department was able to contain the fuel that leaked from the truck involved in the crash, according to Cronin.

Southbound I-25 was closed south of MLK to Circle Drive due to the rollover, CSFD said. The Colorado Department of Transportation said they were back open by 4:30 p.m.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
