Gorgeous weekend ahead for Colorado before big weather swing next week

Temperatures in Denver will go from near a record high on Sunday and Monday to the upper 20s and lower 30s by Wednesday morning.

DENVER — FORECAST BY: 9NEWS Weather Impact Team Meteorologists Chris Spears

THE FORECAST AT A GLANCE:

Get ready for a beautiful last weekend of October across Colorado with plenty of sunshine and very warm temperatures. Most of the state will be in the 60s and 70s today with only scattered mid and high-level clouds passing through, especially in our northern counties. Wind speeds should be on the light side. Highs will be in the 40s and 50s above 9,500 feet.

It’ll be even warmer on Sunday and Monday as highs approach 80 degrees in Denver. The record for Sunday is 83° set in 2016 and Monday’s record is 82°, also from 2016. The warm, dry weather will elevate the fire danger and we could even see fire weather warnings issued for some areas. The wind will pick up during the day on Sunday, and it will be even stronger on Monday.

Clouds will be on the increase as we head into Monday night due to an approaching storm. It will bring some of the coldest air we have seen so far this season. Then starting Tuesday, a strong storm will bring moderate to heavy mountain snow, a major drop in temperature and potentially the first snow of the season to the lower elevations, including Denver and the I-25 urban corridor.

If you need to do any work in the yard to prepare for winter, you have three more days to work on things, such as blowing out our sprinklers and putting the deck furniture away.

Looking ahead to Halloween, it actually doesn’t look too bad. Temperatures during Trick-or-Treat time should be in the 40s around Denver with light wind.

SATURDAY: Mostly sunny and warm, high 73. Quiet and dry overnight, low 42.

SUNDAY: Mostly sunny and very warm, high 79. It will be breezy at times, especially during the afternoon. A few clouds overnight, low 47.

MONDAY: Increasing clouds and windy with elevated fire danger, high close to 80. Mostly cloudy overnight, low 45.

TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy, windy and much cooler with rain showers likely by the evening, high 60. Mostly cloudy, with rain/snow showers overnight, low 30.

WEDNESDAY: Cloudy and chilly with morning snow showers, high 45. Partly cloudy overnight, low 28.

THURSDAY (HALLOWEEN): Partly cloudy and seasonal, high 55. Partly cloudy overnight, low 30.

FRIDAY: Mostly sunny and cool, high 59. Mostly clear and chilly overnight, low 31.
