1 dead in Colorado Springs semi rollover crash that closed southbound I-25

At least one other person was taken to a hospital in critical condition, according to a Colorado Springs Police Department spokesperson.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — One person is dead and at least one other was taken to a hospital after a rollover crash in Colorado Springs that closed the southbound lanes of Interstate 25 on Saturday.

The crash, which involved three people in one heavy equipment service truck and one car, happened just after 10 a.m. Saturday in the area of I-25 and the Martin Luther King Jr Bypass (MLK), according to Ira Cronin, a Colorado Springs Police Department spokesperson.

One person died and at least one other was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, Cronin said.

At 10:20 a.m., the Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) said that teams were on the scene of the crash, reporting that there were people trapped in a vehicle. In an update, the fire department said one person was extricated.

The crash did not have an environmental impact, as the fire department was able to contain the fuel that leaked from the truck involved in the crash, according to Cronin.

Southbound I-25 is closed south of MLK to Circle Drive due to the rollover, CSFD said. Drivers going southbound are being diverted to MLK. The interstate is expected to remain closed for several hours, Cronin said.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
