High fire danger today and cooler weather Friday, ahead of a weekend warm-up and wintry conditions early next week.
DENVER — FORECAST BY: 9NEWS Weather Impact Team Meteorologists Laurann Robinson
THE FORECAST AT A GLANCE:
We’re looking at a dry, windy afternoon across most of Colorado, which will increase fire danger concerns. Red Flag Warnings are in-place for most of the front range/eastern plains through 6 p.m. Thursday, for winds gusting up to 50 mph and relative humidity as low as 16 percent.
Winds calm overnight, under clear skies and chilly temperatures. Denver will see lows near 38 degrees, but surrounding areas could see overnight lows near-freezing. A Frost Advisory will go into affect from midnight tonight through 9 a.m. Friday.
Cooler air will settle over Colorado by Friday afternoon, dropping highs into the middle 60s, despite sunny skies.
For the weekend, a ridge of high pressure will push into the state, bringing sunny, warm, dry conditions Saturday, Sunday and even into Monday. Watch for afternoon highs to bounce back into the middle 70s through lower 80s, each day, respectively.
Big changes roll in for next Tuesday and Wednesday! Highs will tumble into the 50s Tuesday and 40s Wednesday, with our first freeze of the season possible. Additionally, rain showers are likely for Tuesday afternoon, transitioning into snow by early Wednesday morning. Snow amounts look minimal, with perhaps a bit of slush in Denver, but it might count as our first snow of the season.
