Warm dry week ahead of colder weather and chance for snow next week

Sunshine and 70s through the weekend with elevated fire danger at the end of the week. Next week a pattern change, colder weather and perhaps snow!

DENVER — FORECAST BY: 9NEWS Weather Impact Team Meteorologist Kathy Sabine

THE FORECAST AT A GLANCE:

Another warm and dry day in the Denver area after yesterday’s gloomy start to the week. Highs topped out above average again in the mid-70s under mostly sunny skies and southwesterly flow aloft.

Our high temperatures will probably be our main weather impact, with highs running 10-15 degrees above average for late October.

We’ll stay dry and warm through Thursday before a weak cold front drops through Colorado, perhaps leading to a few rain and snow showers for our far northern mountains on Thursday or early Friday. Winds will increase as well, leading to increased fire danger for Thursday in particular.

After the passage of the dry front at the end of the week we will warm right back up again for this weekend, with highs ten to fifteen degrees above average in the mid 70s on Sunday for the home Broncos game at Empower Field at Mile High.

We are tracking a shift in the upper air weather pattern for next week that could lead to much cooler weather and not only the first freeze for  Denver but perhaps a chance for a few snow showers. Showers are forecast late Tuesday possible mixing with snow by Wednesday morning. Midweek highs in the 40s and 50s, lows in the 20s! The European model strongly hinting at an active weather week starting as early There are still some big disagreements among the main computer forecast models, so specifics are lacking.

But, it appears pretty likely that we’ll have our first freeze of the season next week in the Denver area, and maybe our first snow as well.

Until then, we’re mostly sunny, warm and dry!
