The CDC said most of the sick people are from Colorado, where 27 people were ill and one person died.

COLORADO, USA — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is reporting an E coli. outbreak in 10 states linked to McDonald’s Quarter Pounders. The CDC said 47 people have gotten sick, including 27 in Colorado. The agency said 10 people have been hospitalized and one person in Colorado died.

Everyone interviewed said they ate at McDonald’s before getting sick and specifically mentioned eating a Quarter Pounder hamburger, according to the CDC.

The agency has not identified a specific ingredient linked to the illness, but investigators are focused on the onions and the beef patties. The agency said for the time being, McDonald’s has removed both ingredients from the Quarter Pounder hamburgers from stores in the affected states. The Quarter Pounders may be temporarily unavailable in some states.

According to the CDC, most people infected with E. coli experience the following symptoms:

  • severe stomach cramp
  • diarrhea (often bloody)
