Sketch released of man found dead by hiker in Summit County

Summit County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help identifying the remains of a man found earlier this month in the Officers Gulch area.

SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. — The Summit County Coroner’s Office released a sketch of a man whose remains were discovered earlier this month by a hiker near Officers Gulch.

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office said the body belonged to a man who they believe is possibly of South or Central American descent. The sheriff’s office described him as about 40 to 50 years old, 5-foot-2, and between 120 and 130 lbs. The sheriff’s office said he has black/gray colored hair with a receding hairline.

They said he also had two silver or metallic colored teeth. They were on either side of his two upper front teeth.

The body was transferred to the coroner’s office, which will work to determine the person’s identity and cause of death.

The coroner said they’re working with the FBI to identify the man through fingerprints. Colorado Bureau of Investigation and private DNA specialists are working on a DNA profile.

A forensic pathologist and forensic anthropologist are assisting the coroner’s office as they work to determine the man’s cause, manner, and time of death.

The sheriff’s office said the man could have been in the area from anywhere between two weeks to two months. They said he also had two silver or metallic colored upper teeth.

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the community’s help in identifying the man.

The preliminary investigation found there was “no elevated risk to public safety,” the sheriff’s office said.
