Cooler, with chances for showers, Friday afternoon

Highs drop into the lower 60s, Friday afternoon, with late-day shower chances.

DENVER — FORECAST BY: 9NEWS Weather Impact Team Meteorologist Laurann Robinson

FORECAST AT A GLANCE:

Cooler, wet weather is moving into Colorado!

Thursday evening, scattered showers push into the western slope, with a few snowflakes across central and northern portions of the high country. Denver, and the rest of the urban corridor, will likely stay dry and breezy, with overnight lows in the upper 40s.

Friday, afternoon highs fall into the middle 50s to lower 60s. Early, we’ll see widespread showers across the western slope and snow across the mountains. By Friday afternoon, the front range should prepare for on-and-off scattered rain showers, becoming heavier across the plains overnight.

Saturday, it’s looking like the majority of the rainfall/snowfall will fall south of the I-70 corridor, but can’t rule out a stray shower farther north. The larger focus of the day will certainly be the cooler air, with afternoon temperatures falling nearly 15 degrees below-average, into the lower 50s.

With the heaviest precipitation expected to the south, the southwestern high country will see a few winter weather alerts from Friday morning through noon Sunday. Prepare for Winter Storm Warnings across most of the San Juans, for a couple feet of new snowfall. Additionally, eastern portions of the San Juan, as well as portions of the Sangre de Cristos, will be under Winter Weather Advisories for up to a foot of new snowfall. With winds gusting up to 40 mph, watch for blowing snow to reduce visibility and create hazardous travel.

Temperatures start to rebound, Sunday, with Denver highs returning to the lower 60s. Precipitation will start to move out, clearing out of Colorado by the overnight hours.

As we start the next workweek, sunny and mild conditions return. We’ll see the return or dry, sunny skies and highs in the lower to  middle 70s.
