Warm and dry with areas of wildfire smoke tonight and tomorrow

Our warm dry weather pattern continues until the weekend. An Air Quality Alert has been posted for smoke and haze from out of state fires.

DENVER — FORECAST BY: 9NEWS Weather Impact Team Meteorologist Kathy Sabine

THE FORECAST AT A GLANCE:

Hazy and warm weather to kick off the week with our trend of above average highs continuing through the week. Highs today hit the lower 80s downtown, once again above the average of 69 degrees.

An Air Quality Alert has been posted due to wildfire smoke streaming into the state from Wyoming and Utah. Some improvement in the air quality in the next 24 to  36 hours with an expected wind shift. We’re staying on the summer train for the time being with hopefully a pattern shift over the weekend.

Some of that smoke should push out tomorrow late morning with more westerly winds, but it’ll still stay hazy at times with a high in the low 80s once again.

We stay dry and warm all week long, with highs in the low-to-mid 80s, 10-15° above our average high in the upper 60s for this week.

Today marks the average date of Denver’s first freeze, but there is nothing in the next 10-14 days getting us even close to a frost, let alone a freeze.

We’re still watching for the potential for a bit of a weather pattern flip next weekend and into the following week, but recent computer modeling is less bullish on those cooler and more fall-like temperatures for Sunday and Monday. That means we’ll probably get at least a bit of a cooldown, but not as drastic or as rainy as it was looking like a few days ago.

Our late summer feel is here to stay for at least this week, and probably into next week as well.
