Areas of smoke could be thick at times, especially overnight and into Monday morning.
DENVER — FORECAST BY: 9NEWS Weather Impact Team Meteorologist Chris Spears
THE FORECAST AT A GLANCE:
It will be a touch cooler today after our record high of 87 degrees in Denver on Saturday. By this afternoon, we should top out right around 80 degrees, which is still 10 degrees above normal for this date. The mountains will be well into the 70s and we’ll see a few places on the western slope get close to 90 degrees.
If you plan to attend the Broncos game make sure you slather on the sun screen and stay hydrated. By mid to late afternoon we have the potential to see areas of wildfire smoke filtering through the region, and it could be locally thick at times.
The new work week will start off with more of the same, including wildfire smoke. In fact we could see a lot of it, and potentially even smell it, as you start your day tomorrow. Highs will remain well above normal for this time of year with widespread 70s in mountains and 80s across the lower elevations, including Denver and the eastern plains.
All eyes are on the upcoming weekend because there are some indications in the computer forecast models that we may finally see a shift in our weather pattern. The data points to much cooler air working into the state along with a chance for some rain and mountain snow. That picture will become more clear in the next few days.
