Northern lights could be visible in Colorado tonight

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Sky watchers and stargazers should look to the northern horizon the next few nights for a chance at seeing the northern lights.

A Geomagnetic Storm Watch has been issued due to a pair of coronal mass ejections that are anticipated to arrive from Friday through Sunday, according to the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center.

NOAA said a coronal mass ejection (CME), or an eruption of solar material, will likely reach Earth and lead to increased geomagnetic activity.

The northern lights could be viewable across a wide stretch of the United States and Canada, including Colorado, on Friday and Saturday. The best chance of seeing the northern lights will be late Friday night. 

Those in Colorado have the best opportunity to see aurora borealis the farther north they go toward and into Wyoming. The best viewing window is expected to be from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday.
