Hottest October day on record possible in Denver today

Temperatures will soar into the 90-degree range for today, which will likely break several records.

FORECAST AT A GLANCE: 

Hazy sunshine and cooler weather Tuesday in the wake of the dry front that moved through Monday. Fall-like weather was the rule today for the first day of October with highs in the mid 70s. The average high today is 72 degrees. A wonderful and comfortable day, but the cooler weather will not last.  

Despite the cooler weather  dry and breezy conditions will increase fire danger across north-central Colorado. Red Flag Warnings have been issued for North Park and the mountains of Grand and Jackson counties, through 7 p.m. Tuesday. Prepare for winds gusting up to 40 mph and relative humidity as low as 11 percent to increase fire danger. Red Flag Warnings have been extended across northern Colorado and north and east into Wyoming and Nebraska. Rocky Mountain National Park and the foothills of Larimer and Boulder counties will see warm, windy weather with elevated fire danger Wednesday afternoon. 

Warm weather returns midweek with a possible record high. Mostly sunny, breezy and warmer Wednesday. Afternoon highs could reach the upper 80s and lower 90s, breaking the existing record high of 88 degrees. 

Through the rest of the week breezy, dry and warm weather continues with sunshine and above average highs in the upper 70s and mid 80s. A second record is threatened Saturday ahead of a cool front that will bring cooler seasonal weather for Sunday and the afternoon Broncos game again the Raiders.  There is no significant precipitation in the extended forecast.  

WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny and warm, high 90 (record: 88°). Mostly clear overnight, low 51.

THURSDAY: Mostly sunny and a tad cooler, high 75. Mostly clear overnight, low 51.

FRIDAY: Mostly sunny and warm, high 85 (record: 87°). Mostly clear overnight, low 45.

SATURDAY: Mostly sunny and warm, high 89 (record: 86°). Mostly clear overnight, low 55.

SUNDAY: Mostly sunny and mild, high 80. Mostly clear overnight, low 47.

MONDAY: Mostly sunny and mild, high 83 (record: 87°). Mostly clear overnight, low 48.

TUESDAY: Mostly sunny and warm, high 81 (record: 85°). Mostly clear overnight, low 50.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny and seasonal, high 82. Mostly clear overnight, low 52.
