The milk included in the recall could be dangerous or potentially deadly to anybody with an allergy, as it may contain almonds not listed on the label.
WASHINGTON — Jugs of a popular brand of lactose-free milk have been recalled in 27 states because the milk may contain traces of almonds, which could be dangerous to those with nut allergies.
The recall, which was issued Friday by HP Hood LLC, is for certain 96 oz. cartons of milk, with the “LACTAID” brand on the front.
No illnesses or adverse reactions related to the potentially contaminated milk have been reported. The threat of almonds was discovered during a routine inspection that revealed that trace amounts of the food could have made their way into some batches of milk.
The milk was shipped to stores in AL, CO, CT, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MD, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, NE, NJ, NY, OH, OK, PA, TX, VA, WI, and WY between Sept. 5 and Sept. 18.
How to tell if your milk is in the recall
Customers can check the SKU codes on their milk to determine if it’s included in the recall. Containers with the code 51-4109 P2 are all included in the recall. The affected milk has “Best By” dates ranging from Nov. 24 to Dec. 1.

You can take any milk included in the recall back to the store it was purchased from for a full refund or exchange, even if it has been opened. You can also call the Hood Customer Affairs hotline at 800-242-2423 on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Eastern.
