Driver arrested after pedestrian killed in Aurora crash

The crash closed southbound lanes of South Parker Road at South Peoria Street early Sunday morning.

AURORA, Colo. — A driver was arrested after a pedestrian was hit and killed in a crash Sunday morning, the Aurora Police Department said. 

Police said the crash happened just before 6 a.m. in the area of South Parker Road and South Peoria Street. Police said the driver of an Infiniti SUV was southbound when he lost control, crashing into another vehicle and hitting a pedestrian. The SUV also hit a light pole and two trees before stopping in the intersection, police said. 

The pedestrian died on the scene. His name has not yet been released. 

Police said no one in either vehicle was injured. 

Police said the driver of the SUV, 24-year-old Jose Perez, was arrested on charges of vehicular homicide, DUI and reckless driving. Police said alcohol intoxication and excessive speed are being considered factors in the crash. 

Southbound Parker Road was closed for several hours due to the investigation. The road reopened around 4 p.m.
