Isolated storms today, but stronger storms likely tomorrow

We could get a gusty storm or two today, but storms likely turn much more widespread and stronger for tomorrow, with gusty winds our main impact both days.

DENVER — FORECAST BY: 9NEWS Weather Impact Team Meteorologist Chris Bianchi

THE FORECAST AT A GLANCE:

We’re looking at a summer-like pattern for the next few days before a real taste of fall this upcoming weekend, but not before a few stronger storms likely for Tuesday.

Highs top out in the mid-80s for both today and tomorrow, with an isolated gusty storm possible for this afternoon and a much better chance for storms (and some strong) for tomorrow. Similar to yesterday, we could see a brief gusty shower or storm after 2 p.m. in the Denver area, and a much better chance for storms the further west and south you go in the mountains today.

Tomorrow, there’s the potential for a Weather Impact Day with stronger and widespread storms that could bring the Denver area and the Eastern Plains gusty winds and hail, with strong winds probably the main impact from tomorrow’s storms. Highs once again reach the mid-80s, but with a fair bit of cloud cover in the afternoon and evening.

We could get a couple of waves of storms tomorrow between 2-7 p.m., and again, a few of those could be on the stronger side. It’s a good day to be weather aware and pay close attention to the forecast, especially if you have afternoon or evening plans!

Meanwhile, temperatures cool and the sun returns for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, with highs in the low-to-mid 80s all three days.

By Friday, though, a sharp Pacific trough of low pressure will likely bring the mountains a widespread taste of fall, with the possibility for mountain snow down to perhaps 10,000 feet in elevation and a sharp cooldown for the Denver area for this upcoming weekend, with highs struggling to reach 70 degrees both days next weekend.

We could get some meaningful rain out of the next system, although the latest guidance is taking the brunt of the rain and snow north of Colorado. Still, next weekend is also worth a close watch.

In the meantime, watch out for stronger storms tomorrow and enjoy the last gasps of summer – fall officially begins on Sunday morning!
