Tracking evening showers ahead of hot dry Thursday with critical fire danger!

A weak front brought milder temps in the mid 80s and moisture for scattered evening showers and storms. Red Flag Warnings posted for high fire danger Thursday!

THE FORECAST AT A GLANCE:

We enjoyed a slightly milder day today with partly sunny skies and afternoon temperatures in the lower to middle 80s.

Scattered late day and evening showers brought some areas a brief heavy downpour, some wind and lightning. Not everyone has seen rain yet today but the showers will continue on the eastern plains late into the evening.

High fire danger will be our main concern for tomorrow, with a Red Flag Warning posted for  highs pushing up near record levels (forecast: 92°, record: 94°) and gusty winds. It’ll also be very dry, with relative humidity dropping below 15 percent on Thursday afternoon. It’s a don’t-be-stupid day, so avoid anything with a spark outdoors. Any fire that starts has the potential to spread quickly on Thursday.

We cool down behind a dry, weak front on Friday, and that’ll bring more seasonal conditions (low 80s for a high) for the end of the week. We warm back up again for a mainly sunny and dry weekend, with highs in the mid-80s both days.

Next week looks mostly the same, though we’re watching for the potential for a notable drop in temperatures at the end of next week.

Until then, enjoy the summer-like weather and watch for those gusty storms this afternoon!
