Denver organization delivers supplies to Hurricane Ida victims

Colorado Creating Change is driving to Louisiana to help people impacted by Hurricane Ida.

DENVER — Colorado Creating Change, a volunteer organization in Denver, is loading up its trucks and preparing to drive to Louisiana to help people impacted by Hurricane Ida.

The organization was formed during the pandemic to deliver supplies to Native American reservations in New Mexico and South Dakota. The executive director said they have served tens of thousands of people living on reservations and in Denver. Now, they are collecting donations to take to hurricane victims.

More than 1 million homes and businesses in Louisiana and Mississippi — including all of New Orleans — were left without power as Ida, one of the most powerful hurricanes ever to hit the U.S. mainland, pushed through on Sunday.

The damage was so extensive that officials warned it could be weeks before the power grid was repaired.

Colorado Creating Change is taking financial donations, hygiene, diapers, formula, medical supplies and non-perishable food. Financial donations can be sent to @Coloradocreatingchange on Venmo.

The group plans to leave Denver on Wednesday.
